To celebrate the values of Europe Day, we invited young people to participate in a photography competition organised by Eurodesk Ireland
The theme of the competition was Peace and Unity. We invited young people (13–30) to submit photographs that capture what peace and unity in Europe means to them. This exciting opportunity challenged young people to express their creativity and connect with like-minded individuals.
The competition was run on a local level through Eurodesk Ireland Network. Many wonderful entries to the competition were received and the local Centres had the difficult task of submitting a shortlist of entries into the National Competition.
A judging panel from the Eurodesk National Office and Léargas selected one National winner for each age range:
- 13-15 Category
- 16-18 Category
- 19-30 Category
Each winner has been awarded photography equipment of their choice to the value of 500 euros. We wish the three main winners lots of joy and fun in using their new cameras and enhancing their creative skills!
We also would like to thank all young people who took part in the competition for taking their time to reflect about the values of peace and unity and sending their entries to local Eurodesk partners.
Winner 13-15 Category
Kashvi, entry received via Dun Laoghaire Youth Information Service (Crosscare)
Circle of Unity
The picture I chose is a picture that my friends and I took on the last day of school. This represents peace and unity extremely well, as all of us were together and spending our last schoolday making a load of memories. This picture represents peace, as whenever we’re together we always have so much fun together. Even just sitting in silence gives me a sense of peace.
Winner 16-18 Category
Leo, entry received via Europe Direct Blanchardstown
End of a Day
Two people are holding hands on a railing. Both are overlooking a suburban park and neighbourhood. The sun is setting in the background on another peaceful day. We live in a peaceful society surrounded by an everyday beauty. Peace and unity between nature and modern life.
Winner 19-30 Category

Peace and Unity
This photo was taken in Armenia back in August of 2019. This was my very first Youth Exchange. The countries that took part were Estonia, Armenia and Ireland. We had a task of working together without speaking and we had to make a shape by using our bodies and this is what the group did. I so happened to be up on a balcony and I snapped this photo.
